Level Designer

Remote Contract 1 year
Posted October 15, 2026 Apply by November 12, 2026

LimboLane is a small multidisciplinary team making narrative games. Our previous titles are Smile For Me, Great God Grove, and FACE LOVE Deluxe.

We are looking for a part time dedicated level designer on an unannounced 2D physics platformer with roguelike elements. Your responsibilities will be designing challenges, testing levels for difficulty, writing level design documentation, and working with playtesters to determine an appropriate difficulty curve for the game.

We are a small, multidisciplinary team, so we value our generalists. You should have some experience in multiple parts of game development, and be motivated to learn new skills whenever they would benefit the team. You should be capable of doing great work independently even without direct oversight. You should be comfortable challenging the team. We want a creative and intellectual partner, not just an extra set of hands.

This is a fully remote part-time contractor position. LimboLane is based out of the Pacific Northwest US and works in PST. Only candidates in the United States will be considered at this time.

As a level designer, you will:

  • Take the lead on level design, creating levels in Unity3D and testing them under various gameplay conditions

  • Write and maintain documentation on your level design strategy and rules

  • Test the game extensively to refine your designs

  • Communicate with a programmer in the ideation + implementation of new mechanics

  • Oversee playtests, working with testers to ascertain difficulty, level length, and “fun factor”

  • Attend periodic standup meetings with the full team

You must have:

  • Multiple years experience designing games / challenges. Experience shipping projects

  • Exceptional knowledge of level design generally

  • Exceptional knowledge of “rage game,” platformer, and physics sim genres specifically

  • Experience with source control tools such as Git

  • Excellent playtesting experience, skilled at breaking down games and isolating technical issues, giving feedback

  • Experience working in Unity3D

  • Intimate knowledge of the games space, trends in games and games marketing
